About CushionFun
What this is
CushionFun is an independent, advertising-supported site about throw pillows and cushions — covers, fill, foam, fabric, and the sizing questions that come up when you’re dressing a sofa, bed, or bench. It isn’t affiliated with any fabric brand, foam manufacturer, or textile-industry standards body.
The tools
Six free calculators, each built around one real decision: Cushion Insert Size Calculator, Cushion Fill Calculator, Throw Pillow Arrangement Planner, Fabric Yardage Calculator, Cushion Foam Calculator, and Cushion Cost Calculator.
How they work
Each tool takes numbers you already have — a cover’s finished size, a sofa’s length, a fill’s loft, a fabric’s width — and turns them into a size, quantity, layout, or cost. Nothing is pulled from a database of your project; every result is calculated fresh from what you type in.
Sizing & fill
The Insert Size Calculator sizes an insert 1–2 inches larger than the finished cover, matched against the nearest standard square or lumbar size. The Fill Calculator works from a stated fiberfill density to turn size, loft, and firmness into ounces or pounds of fiberfill.
Layout, yardage & foam
The Arrangement Planner follows a pairs-plus-a-lumbar layout convention that’s common in cushion styling. The Yardage Calculator rounds your fabric need up to the nearest quarter yard. The Foam Calculator applies common ILD firmness and density ranges for seat, back, and outdoor cushions.
Cost
The Cost Calculator adds up fabric, insert or foam, and notions, with an optional labor line, into a line-item total — a budgeting estimate, not a quote from any specific supplier.
Where the conventions come from
Standard square and lumbar sizes, fiberfill density figures, ILD firmness ranges, and quarter-yard rounding are widely used conventions in soft-furnishing and upholstery work — not universal law. A specific fabric house, foam supplier, or upholsterer may work to different numbers than the ones built into these tools.
The museum
The Museum of Cushions & Soft Furnishings is a separate, browsable collection on the fibers, fabrics, and craft behind a cushion, drawn from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons entries. It’s background reading, not a calculator, and it’s kept out of search results.
Guides & blog
The blog and learn sections cover the same territory in writing — covers, care, styling, and materials — for anyone who wants more than a calculator’s output.
Straight talk about ads & advice
This site runs on advertising, which is how it stays free with no account or sign-up required. Every result here is a planning estimate, not professional interior-design, upholstery, or construction advice. Rooms, materials, and local prices vary widely, so buy a test amount and check with a professional upholsterer before cutting fabric or ordering foam or fill in bulk.
